Richard H Candy - At the veterans' Hospital on September 29, 1964 Mr. Richard H. Candy aged 69, of 422 Dallas Road Victoria, Formerly of Fernie Bc. He leaves his wife , Ethel Mary: three brothers in England: one brother in Canada : two sisters in England also four nephews. He was a past master of Elk River Lodge No 35AF and Am Grbc, and Royal Arch Masons, Ferni and a Past Patron of the OES, Fernie : also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fernie Branch. He served with the Second Hampshire Regiment in WW1
Funeral Services will be held in McCall Bros. Family Chapel Main office Bldg on Friday October 2, 1964 at 4:30 pm . Padre Douglas Kendell officiating. Followed by Cremation. (Flowers greatfully declined. Friends if desiredmay contribute to the Heart Fund, 1900 Fort Street)

A picture of Edgar Candy found recently in a box in New Zealand by Mike Kane many thanks to Mike for sharing this, on this site you will also see a card from him to his sisters when he was on mission in highbury, moved at some time to Canada and passed away in 1983

DEMOSTHENES

DEMOSTHENES the ship that Ada Olive Candy sailed to Australia on the 24th October 1914 a little history.

Built by HARLAND & WOLFF in Belfast in 1911. She was a vessel of 11,223 Tons. She was the sister ship of the THEMISTOCLES. She did her maiden voyage from London to Melbourne via the Cape of Good Hope in 36 days. During the great war she served as a troop ship, resuming her Australian service in 1920. In 1928 she and her sister were under the management of Oceanic, but still on the same route,including Brisbane now.In 1929 she sailed for Australia from Liverpool, as opposed to London. In 1931 she was broken up at Jarrow.
